The Chronicle of the Chermanski Casting Simulator is a multifaceted narrative of an amazing, one-of-a-kind machine, which was one of the best-kept secrets in the fishing tackle industry for nearly 35 years. Less than 30 people, prior to 2011, had ever seen or heard of the Chermanski Casting Simulator (CCS) despite the fact it provided important data concerning graphite and fiberglass fishing rods that benefited the entire fishing tackle industry since 1977.
The primary objective, and original intent of writing the chronicle, was to describe and document the mechanical features, the operational capabilities and the diverse testing projects of the CCS as part of the package being donated to a museum. During the process of preparing the subject matter, however, it became obvious, based on the many testing projects and the test results involving many types of fishing rods, composite materials and design concepts in the course of a 16-year period, the CCS provided numerous important and revealing insights to some major fishing topics.
In addition, much of the subject matter intertwined with Dave’s personal angling experiences and successes. As a result, the chronicle of a truly unique machine manifested into treatises on fly casting mechanics, flyrod performance, fishing reel drag systems, fishing rod dynamics, fish-fighting techniques and fly line characteristics. In essence, the chronicle evolved into an autobiographical profile of Dave’s angling life since 1977. Since the details to these topics are interspersed throughout the various sections of the chronicle, the Table of Contents, listed below, is arranged to provide an easier method of navigating to these special interests.
The Chronicle was written to give the reader the complete story, and all of the facts, involving a specific concept pertaining to fly casting mechanics, flyrod performance, fishing reel drag systems, fishing rod dynamics, fish-fighting techniques and fly line characteristics. As a result, many sections of the Chronicle are highly technical to explain in detail the math and science, as well as the testing configurations, to these major topics. In essence, the Chronicle was written primarily for those students to these fishing concepts, particularly fly casting mechanics, who are seriously interested in enhancing their fishing experiences and successes.
The 163-page spiral-bound book is richly illustrated with 20 tables and charts, 53 graphic drawings and more than 150 photos in an easy-to-read 8.5" by 11" format. The spiral binding allows for the book to be folded in half lengthwise or opened flat on a surface for easier reading.
