Chermanski Inc. is now offering personal fly casting lessons. These personal one-on-one sessions will be conducted by either Dave or his son, Captain Willie, who have more than a combined 45 years of experience in providing personal fly casting instruction. In fact, since 1980, Dave was one of the first instructors to use video equipment in assisting anglers to improve their fly casting skills.

Fly casting is a very personal aspect of the fly fishing experience and a continuous learning process. No one is ever too young or too old to start fly casting or to enjoy the pleasures of fly fishing. Just look at the photo on the left of Captain Willie who was a seasoned fly caster at 10 years old. Not only is each fly cast different from any other, each caster has their own personal style to executing the basic mechanics of a cast. As a result, each fly casting session is specially customized to meet the personal needs and learning pace of the student. A typical fly casting session is generally between 45 and 60 minutes in duration.

As an option, the entire fly casting session can be captured on video and burned on a DVD. For intermediate and advanced casters, each fly casting session will focus on a specific aspect of the casting mechanics to improve the overall casting performance and efficiency, thus making the whole fishing experience more enjoyable and productive.

In addition to better understanding the mechanics and honing the skills of fly casting, we can provide instruction to special casting techniques that will broaden your fly fishing experience.  For example, a personal fly casting lesson can be geared to a specific type of cast such as the reach cast and the curve cast. A session can also be dedicated to a specific type of fly line such as casting a shooting head system.

It is suggested you use your own fly outfit for these sessions, but we can provide a rigged fly outfit to match the type of fly fishing you do or plan to do the most frequently. Intermediate and advanced casters can combined casting lessons with a guided fishing trip, although an initial casting lesson that focuses on a specific aspect of the casting mechanics without the distractions of trying to catch an fish is recommended.

The cost for a personal fly casting lesson is $30. Personal fly casting lesson for kids, 10 to 16 years old, is $25. An optional DVD in high-definition color of the personal fly casting lesson can be purchased for an extra $10.
